Congratulations to the TMR Rugby Canada Representatives of the East

Jocelyn Barrieau, Marie-Josée Blais, Marie-Eve Brindamour & Julianne Zussman

"It was a grueling 3-day camp full of intensity and desire from all participants.
Every minute was full of new exciting information that pushed the boundaries of all that I thought I knew about the game.
It was an amazing experience."     Joce

"I have found the passion again. I had lost the meaning of rugby to my life. This weekend's INTENSITY, DEDICATION, WORK ETHIC, and DESIRE to push beyond my comfort zone has gotten me back on track. I wish to be part of it until the end, for that I will have to push beyond the limits."    MJ

"..hard to describe since I didn`t partake in most things (injured during the first session) but I think it was great and the coaches definitely have a vision and a lot of passion for the program. I think everyone learned a lot and gelled through all the hard work. They definitely pushed the girls physically and especially mentally a lot more than other coaches and camps have in the past. But I`m sure it`ll pay off in the near future."     Marie-Eve

"Every session was packed with new ideas, information, and above all, intensity.  I've never worked so hard in my life, and not because the coaches yelled at us... but because the coaches inspired us to want to be better.  I can't wait for any opportunity to work with these athletes and these coaches again."   Julianne

Touch League

The much anticipated launch to the 2009 touch season
and the quest for the Ryan Francis Trophy is quickly approaching.

Here is some news.

LOCATION
We will be moving the Annexe (the old Marionopolis) this year, the address is:

3880 Cote-des-Neiges.

PRICE
Since we are changing locations we are looking at a team fee decrease to 400$ per team (from 475 last season).
Please bring 200$ to the first session.

DATES
We are now playing on Saturday afternoon, from 1230-330.

Jan: 24, 31
Feb 7, 14, 21, 28
Mar 7, 21

RULE CHANGES
We will be switching to 2-handed touch.  So make sure that you have your honesty-pants on when you show up as arguing with the refs is not tolerated.
See all other rules on touchrugby.ca, please show up having read through the rules with your team.

REFS
Please let me know if you are available again this year.  You will be paid the same amount as always.

LEAGUE STRUCTURE
We would like to get back to 20 teams eventually but this year we will be sticking with 16, so it is first confirmed, fi
rst in the league.
We will either go with a 12-4 men-women split, or 10-6 depending on numbers.  We will keep you updated as the emails come in.

INDEPENDENT PLAYERS
If you are an independent player please let me know ASAP.  We will keep one team open for free agents if there are enough or we will meld you into already-formed teams.

That is it for now, please talk to your teams and send me an email.  Please include your team name and colour.
Can't wait to get this season started.

Joce and Julianne

Frankie "Football All-Star" Spera

Quoted from the Ottawa Gee-Gees website
...
Spera, who can do the splits and chose football “because I’m good at it”, is a three-time OUA all-star and 2007 second-team CIS all-Canadian who is a literal pillar along the Gee-Gees offensive line, according to assistant offensive line coach Naim El-Far, 28, a former uOttawa starting offensive guard.

“Somebody his size is not supposed to move that fast, that fluidly,” said El-Far, who played three seasons with Spera before graduating in 2007 with a PhD in Computer Science.

“He understands the system well and can be relied on to make adjustments on the fly.”
Cornell, 21, led the OUA and finished fifth in the CIS in tackles with 53.5 along with an interception. The Hamilton native is a first-time OUA all-star and the top-rated 2009 CFL draft-eligible linebacker in the CIS.

Coaching Certification

Hi all,

For those who have done the FRQ-Rugby Canada coaching course Introduction to Competition in the last few years your coaching certification status is trained not certified. To complete your certification you have to:

  1. Complete the NCCP theory course part A. You can find the dates at www.sportsquebec.com/sq/index_f.aspx?DetailID=294
  2. Complete the NCCP Making ethical decisions

So this is for all of you who did the Introduction to Competition course. To be recognize as a FRQ certified coach in 2007, you will have to show proof of completion of NCCP theory Part A and NCCP Making ethical decisions when you will come to the office to register yourself. If you cannot show these proofs, you will not be recognize as a certified coach and sign the game sheets.

The Quebec Provincial U17 & U19 Women¹s teams are looking for a Program Manager for 2007.

The Responsibilities will include

Management of the Administration for the Program. Management of Arrangements for the Practices, Training Sessions and Games. Management of the Travel for the Program. Coordination of the Players and Coaches Committees charged with the responsibility for Sponsorship, Fundraising and our Website.

As most of the communication with the coaches and players can be done by email and phone the Program Manager can really be based anywhere in the Province.

Will there be a ton of travel? No, as the practices move around the Province the Manager will have ample opportunity to deal with everyone face-to-face when needed during the year without too much travel. You will, however, be required to join us for The Canadian National Championships in St Johns, Newfoundland from August 14-19th, 2007. (All expenses paid, of course).

If you are interested, or know of anyone who might be, please contact me as soon as possible.

Regards, Stephen

PS Either by email or phone (514) 705-7180

NSWT7s World Cup News

The road to Dubai's 7s World Cup has come to an end for Marie-Josée Blais. She was just inches away from the selected 12players who will be traveling to Dubai in a few days. It has been quite an eventful ride for the past 2yrs, since the beginning of the Women 7s program. MJ made it to the top 15 players in the end, something she should be proud of. Now, she hopes the team best of luck as she will be cheering for them.

"I can't wait to play some TMR rugby!"
