TMRII Dominate Laval
With the promise of rain, TMR Sweet Seconds found themselves in Laval after our first win of the season again the Barbs the previous Saturday. By now this was our fourth game playing together and things were really coming together.
The first two scrums of the game, our tight five lead by props Rowdy Rudko, Pull-out-all-stops Pine, ass-rockets Maria the Mauler and Jax-the ripper had the Nomads on the back of the heels unable to stop the force of…well us.
The game had only just commenced and we found ourselves within Laval’s 22 line. Getting the ball out to our backs after the scrum, lead to the first try of the game scored by ‘Straight-Arm’ Cindy Lafontaine who just like her name implies would just as soon straight arm you as look at you. Following the kick-off, the forwards were going through our plays like clockwork, slow-ball, pick- and-go followed by getting it to the backs. Namely, Laura ‘Speedy Gonzales’ Stewart who took the ball three times to the score line and ‘Armageddon’ Amy Qi whose inspirational runs resulted in a try in our first half. A TMR 2008 season first was a joined try by Laura N-G-ya-gettin’-outta-my-way and Straight-Arm Cindy. Let’s see the mens’ side attempt that…
It wasn’t all the backs scoring the tries as Rudko made a dive near the try line to score and it wasn’t long before our Dragonas followed her lead. Laval though a newly formed team, illustrated their commitment to the game in using their strengths to get their ball to their speedy backs. They made some ground and came close to scoring a try were it not for Emma “I’m-glad-you’re-on-my-team” Gaudet who made some truly awesome tackles and paired that with her offensive play in scoring a try in the second half. Big hits were also made by the forwards namely Adara ‘brick buster’ Borys who equally took some trail balls to gain some ground.
Line outs had Jumper-Ru creating a disturbance in the tunnel during Nomads’s ball forcing them to throw it more to their own players than straight. We didn’t mind as our scrums had enough punch so that in the second half they went uncontested.
It was a great game and Laval, ever the gracious players, followed the tradition of bringing us over some beers. Thanks Laval for the great game!
Ciara after being away travelling was hot to get on the field in the second half and showed us that even in her absence she had not lost her ability in taking the ball beyond Lavals defense to score her first try of the season
Final score: TMR II 67, Laval 0
